2022 Projects

H2001 Instituto Doug Allen
Las Lajas, Comayagua,
Honduras

SCW Canada has partnered with the Municipal Government of Las Lajas, the community of Lajas and the Ministry of Education to build a new high school which is desperately needed to serve the students in this community as well as a number of nearby communities. This project will provide secondary school education with a focus on vocational trades.

The first phase of construction comprises four large classrooms with washrooms. One classroom will have enhanced electrical services to allow training in electrical technology. Another classroom is outfitted as a computer lab and the remaining two classrooms are for general secondary school curriculum. The site of the school has been provided by the local municipality of Las Lajas and the local community has contributes some labour and materials.

Construction commenced in February 2020 but was delayed for 2 years due to Covid as well as two hurricanes in 2021. Construction of phase 1 was completed by the fall of 2022 but the school opening was further delayed by a lack of qualified teachers being readily available. The school opened in April 2023 and planning for Phase 2 which will include an automotive technology shop is underway.

Construction Cost For Phase 1    $126,809.04 USD
